FAQ

What is consignment?

Consignment means Leeuwesteyn Automotive sells your vehicle on your behalf, from listing and showing to negotiating and the RDW transfer. You remain the legal owner until the sale is completed; only then does ownership pass to the buyer.

How long does a consignment sale take on average?

We aim to sell your vehicle within three months. That is not a guarantee: it depends on the season, how popular your specific vehicle is, its condition and the asking price we agree on together. We keep you informed along the way.

Who sets the asking price and the minimum price?

They are agreed together. Leeuwesteyn Automotive advises an asking price based on what comparable vehicles fetch in the Netherlands; you decide. A minimum price is also recorded, and it never sells below that without your approval.

What costs are involved?

You pay no setup or photography fees, and commission is only due once your vehicle is sold. A monthly advertising contribution applies for as long as it is listed. The rates are gone through at intake and are set out in the consignment agreement before you sign. All amounts are excluding VAT.

What happens if my vehicle does not sell?

Then a price adjustment is discussed, or you pick up your vehicle free of charge. You only pay the advertising costs for the months elapsed.

Can I take my vehicle back before it sells?

Yes. You stay the owner, so you can collect your vehicle before it is sold. A notice period of 14 days applies; you only pay the advertising costs for the months it was listed.

When do I get my money and the vrijwaringsbewijs?

The vehicle only leaves once the buyer has paid in full. On sale, Leeuwesteyn Automotive arranges the re-registration and indemnification with the RDW straight away and you receive the vrijwaringsbewijs; from that moment your road tax and insurance for that vehicle stop. Within 14 days of delivery you receive a written settlement and the balance in your account: the sale price minus the commission and the agreed costs.

What should I bring to the intake?

The registration certificate, all keys, the maintenance history and the accessories that belong with the vehicle, such as a second key, panniers or an extra set of tyres. The more complete the package, the easier it sells.

Which platforms will my vehicle appear on?

On leeuwesteyn.com and on the major Dutch sales platforms, including Marktplaats, AutoScout24, Gaspedaal and AutoTrack, plus social media. You pay one fixed amount per month, no matter how many channels it runs on.

How do viewings and test drives work?

At Leeuwesteyn Automotive's location and always by appointment, so you never have strangers at your door. For a test drive the driving licence is checked and the buyer signs a test-drive form.

Do I keep paying insurance and road tax during the consignment?

Yes. The registration stays in your name until the sale is complete, so road tax keeps running and you keep the vehicle insured, third party as a minimum. Tell your insurer in writing that it is with a dealer for sale. The vehicle is kept in the locked showroom and the keys are locked away.
